Cinderella

Marcia Brown, one of the most honored illustrators in children’s literature, is a three-time Caldecott Medalist and six-time Caldecott Honor illustrator, as well as winner of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for the body of her work. She lives in Laguna Hills, California. Brown is also the author of Stone Soup, another award winning classic book.

This is my favorite version of the story of Cinderella. I can see most definitely why this book was the Caldecott Award. It was well deserved. The story of Cinderella by Marcia Brown is pure and sweet. It has lovely illustrations. Whenever I was in the world of education as a school librarian and did a Cinderella unit, I always tried to start with this version so the children would see the ‘real’ story first before we went into the different versions. Quite often, this one was their favorite. I prefer this one to any of the goofier versions that are entertaining but not the true story. Cinderella by Marcia Brown is just a classic and belongs in every elementary school library collection or classroom collection. It is definitely the ‘one’. – E. Ervin
