Inside: Early Reader Books to Delight All Ages

The last thing beginning readers need is a boring book from the early reader section. At best, the uninspiring ones provide dull, repetitive practice. At worst, they feel condescending and trite.

Drudgery is the opposite way to inspire a love of reading.

Don’t settle for them. Don’t think they’re an inevitability in the process of learning to read. There’s absolutely NO need to resign yourself to using those boring early readers to teach children to read.

Inspire them to read with compelling stories. Engage them in the process with delightful characters. They’ll be learning to read because they want to read the books.

  1. Do you have a list for readers who are in between these type of books and full on chapter books? I have a 3rd grader.

You can search our Book Finder by Age first and then filter by interests – this might be the best solution for finding something for a third grader.

Thank you so much. This is a wonderful reading list. I plan to get some of these to read with my granddaughter. She will start 1st grade in a few weeks and has mastered over 100 sight words. Would you recommend Level 2 for her? Thank you again for these wonderful recommendations and for your site as a whole. Have a delightful day.

    1. Learning Through Literature says:

Hi, Toni! Level 2 is great for children who are reading but still need a little help. Level 1 books have shorter, simpler sentences and are for children just beginning to sound out words. We hope you enjoy reading some of these books with your granddaughter!
