Roxaboxen: A treasured story about the magic of a child’s imagination.
Roxaboxen
Roxaboxen is based on Alice McLerran’s mother’s childhood in Arizona and an imaginative place she created with friends. Roxaboxen is where rocks become a town and sticks become horses that gallop.
A place where “…nothing but sand and rocks, some old wooden boxes…”
Become “…buried treasure…shelves or tables…shops on Main Street…a house of jewels…”
This magical place is brought to life with beautiful illustrations by artist Barbara Cooney, one of our all-time favorites of Miss Rumphius fame.
We highly recommend reading this one with children of all ages…and then flinging open the door and letting them create their own magical worlds.
“A celebration of the transforming magic of the imagination. An original.” —ALA Booklist
