BCTB Chapter Book Bundle – FAQs
What ages are the guides for?
The BCTB guides are suited for approximately ages 5-12. Some of the chapter books may be intended for children older than 5 or younger than 10, but they’re all worth reading no matter the age (even parents!). We select books that your whole family can enjoy. All of them are great for children who are able to keep up during read-aloud time. Note: Each guide includes “Dig Deeper” sections for older kids who are capable of in-depth topic exploring.

Why are there weekly plans?
We know these probably aren’t the only books you’ll read aloud this year. However, with a plan focused specifically on building character, we want to allow your family time to slow down and connect to what’s happening in the story…even if they ask for one more chapter! Slower reading gives space for more pondering, connecting, and long-lasting memories.
Should we read the book before using the guide?
No, each week includes specific chapters to read during the week. We’ve included a weekly calendar with it all planned out for you (and a blank calendar for you to schedule it out differently, if desired).
What kind of learning topics are included?
Each story determines the related learning topics. Examples include geography, history, culture, nature study, and other elements that deepen understanding of what happens in the story. Engagement and understanding is the goal!
What kind of activities and projects are included?
Each week includes an activity and/or project that connects to the story. Examples include recipes, crafts, activities, or projects related to a topic, and story-related crafts.
What if we’ve read one of the books already?
Even if you’ve read the book, you probably didn’t experience the story. We believe your family will still benefit from reconnecting with it through the guide. If it’s been awhile, you’ll get even more connection reading through a second time and including the guide elements. If you recently read the book, you might choose to review and recall the chapters for each week and progress through the topic exploring and activities. Plus, it’s always fun to have a Story Celebration no matter how long ago you read a book!
What’s a Story Celebration?
Every guide includes a plan to create a fun, interactive Story Celebration. This is a memorable way to end your month of reading and exploring a book. You can do this with your family or scale it up for a book club party with friends.
I don’t have a book club group. Can I still use the Story Celebration plans?
Absolutely! Family book parties can be just as fun. The included plan could be used with a single family, multiple families, co-op groups, etc. Simply scale the party ideas to your group size.
Can I use these guides with my co-op, homeschool group, or classroom?
Please contact [email protected] about using one of our guides with a group.
Do the guides include Internet links?
Yes, the PDF guides include clickable links. However, if you choose to print a guide, all of the links are hosted on a webpage specific to each guide. The guide-specific URL is listed in your PDF guide.
